Sleepwalkers Theatre Sleepwalkers Theatre

who we are

We are telling a new story
and we want you to be a part of it

Everything we make is an original piece of theatre. We               either develop an idea from within, or commit ourselves to             an extensive collaboration with writers who submit to our             website.

New plays aren’t finished, they are abandoned
We believe the producing of a new play to be another step             in the process of writing one.

                And when it’s up?

You can see a Sleepwalkers production for an inexpensive               ticket, drink a two dollar beer, and hang out with us as we           mop the floor and listen to music.

This company was born from the ashes of the worst production of Hamlet ever.

Sleepwalkers Theatre was founded by Tore Ingersoll - Thorp, Damian Lanahan Kalish, and John Rosenberg in 2006.

A year earlier, having suffered through a Guffman like rendering of Shakespeare’s great tragedy, they co-produced an evening of thematically interlocking first scenes; All from original plays. The experience was positive and reaction was good- We felt like we had laid the groundwork for a company, so we set out to form one.

For a year we did nothing but meet in a bar in Chinatown and talk. Over those beers an identity was being formed and a process identified. John and Tore were writing their first plays together, and that method of editing and idea sharing became a key component to how we work.

Jennifer Heller soon joined the group and essentially created our visual self. Everything on the website, and all of our promotional materials have come from her aesthetic sensibilities.

Ian Riley was involved in both of our first two productions, and shortly after the second, he joined the group. He has acted in every single thing since.

John left the group to form another, and more cutting edge theatre will be coming from it soon. If this process were to repeat itself with other members, we couldn’t be happier. We need more exciting small theatre companies, and we think everyone should start one. Check out his group, here: hellafreshtheatre.com

So far we have produced twelve original plays in under two years, with our thirteenth one quickly approaching. We’re looking for more people to get involved in what we are trying to do, so drop us a line, let’s get some beers in a bar in Chinatown, and talk.
